Terrell 'Burger' Batiste of the New Orleans Hot 8 Brass Band plays the trumpet during a performance at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue. Batiste is confined to the wheel chair after losing both legs during a car accident. The band was founded in 1995 by tuba player Bennie Pete, trombone player Jerome Bay Bay Jones and bass drum player Harry Swamp Thang Cook to play brass band music professionally after years of high school performances. The Hot 8 Brass Band began to build a wider prominence after an appearance in Spike Lee's 2006 documentary 'When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts' which focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
