A rare find a 1st Variation Kriegsmarine U-Boot-Frontspange in silver! The Navy U-Boat Front Clasp was instituted on May 15th 1944 by the Supreme Commander of the Kregsmarine Großadmiral Karl Dönitz. If you survived long enough to win a silver grade well you were one of the few lucky ones! It was awarded to recognize the constant tough efforts of the U-Boats and their brave tenacious and exemplary fights. It is constructed out die struck zinc base that has been bronzed washed and lacquer coated. The obverse depicts a U-Boat that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom with two crossed broad swords and is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with outstretched wings clutching a swastika in its talons). To either side of the eagle/wreath is a six piece oak leaf and two piece acorn cluster. The full back reverse is marked: “Entwurf Peekhaus” (designer) and “Ausf. Schwerin Berlin 68” (maker mark). It also displays a flat wire tombak catch and steel pin. All of which are in well working condition. Nice detail remains. The silver wash remains in superb condition with background darkening! It measures approximately 3 inches wide by 1 inch tall. This comes with a Schwerin marked packet which are questionable so I
